Steelite International donates 30,000 items to celebrate 30th anniversary
29 May 2013
Voluntary groups and charities across Staffordshire are being offered free tableware.
Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer Steelite International is giving away 30,000 pieces of ware to deserving causes around the county.
Steelite International has joined forces with VAST – the organisation which supports hundreds of voluntary groups, charities and social enterprises in Staffordshire – to help co-ordinate the project.
The huge collection of ceramics includes 10,000 plates, 6,000 cups and saucers, 3,000 bowls, 1,000 coffee and tea pots, 1,000 salt and pepper pots and thousands of other items like bowls and jugs.
Now Steelite International is inviting community groups and charities to take advantage of the giveaway on Thursday, June 6.
Kevin Oakes, Chief Executive at Steelite International, said: “This is our 30th anniversary year, and we wanted to mark it with some really worthwhile community projects.
“We’re sure the ware will be really useful to a lot of deserving organisations and we’d like as many of them as possible to come along to the event.”
VAST provides development advice, volunteering support, funding information, training and financial and marketing services to voluntary groups and charities.
Sajid Hashmi, Chief Executive of VAST, said: “This is a great opportunity. Funding is hard to come by for many groups at the moment, so it’s really nice to see a successful Staffordshire company helping out Staffordshire communities.
“I would urge any voluntary organisation, community group, charity or social enterprise to come down on the day and take advantage of this most generous offer from Steelite International.
“Maybe your community center or village hall could do with some new crockery or you may be looking for raffle prizes for a fundraising event.”
Steelite International employs more than 800 people, with more than 700 of these working at its Middleport headquarters.
The giveaway takes place at the Dudson Centre in Hope Street, Hanley between 10am and 5pm on Thursday, June 6. Items will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis and recipients will need to be able to take the ware away with them that day.
