Ready Steady Cook Challenge
1 April 2010
On Tueday 30th March Steelite International took part in a Ready Steady Cook style challenge against pottery rivals Dudson at the British Ceramic Manufacturer Confederation in Shelton. Julie Fryer from the Steelite Canten and Ian Wright, Flat Shop Manager represented Steelite as the Oatcake team and Dudson representatives, team Lobby.
The teams were given an hour to prepare a two course meal of their choice, Steelite choosing a starter of French and onion soup and for the main, steak on a bed of pesto, with a side plate of sweet potato, vine tomatoes and salad. The teams were judged on three categories, their description of the food they prepared, taste and also presentation and scored by an audience of approximately 50 people - holding up the appropriate image of the team they wanted to vote for. Anton Edelmann, celebrity chef was head judge of the competition. He was a chef at the Savoy hotel for 21 years before becoming principal chef at the Directors' Table, the fine dining division of catering company Sodexho.
It was a very close call, but unfortunately team Oatcake were piped to the post, with Dudson scoring 92 and Steelite 91.
Congratulations to Julie and Ian who did a fantastic job!
